Normally held on the weekend following the Queen’s Birthday holiday, the Reef & Beef carnival is a men’s event of two bowl triples consisting of five games (three on Saturday, two on Sunday) featuring the best of glorious seafood which Straddie is famous for.
With prizemoney of $2,400, this event is extremely popular for players looking for a relaxing game of competition bowls at an unusual location.
This year will see two events conducted in the Straddie 10,000 - Mixed Fours ($9,000 prize money) & the Open Pairs ($7,500 prize money).
The Mixed Fours has a maximum of 28 teams with the Pairs event run in two sections, both morning and afternoon, having a field of 56 teams.
Entries for the tournament will be treated by the Tournament Committee on a first received basis.
The Straddie 10,000 attracts leading bowlers from SE Queensland and as far away as Melbourne & New Zealand. The first two days are devoted to the Mixed Fours with the Open Pairs event conducted on Wednesday & Thursday, concluding around 8pm, on the last day. There will be no Singles competition this year. A Calcutta on the Pairs is held after the Fours’ presentation on Tuesday evening.straddie 10,000reef n beef
The Straddie 10,000, now in its 20th year was held from August 15th-18th & carried $16,500 in prizemoney. The event attracted leading bowlers from South East Queensland as well as bowlers as far away as Canberra and New Zealand. Two separate competitions were carried out over the four day event: Mixed Fours & Open Pairs.
